The method we use for spongy moths is not like aerial spraying or spraying the tree canopies which can create large drift of the insecticide, instead we used a more direct and targeted approach. We spray each tree on the property up to 7-10 feet up the trunk. Understanding how these pests work is part of the battle. The spongy moths descend from the tree during the day to hide from predators, then make their way back up the tree at night. 

By spraying the trunk and base of the tree, the caterpillars will come in contact with the insecticide and perish. 

The insecticide we use (Bifen I/T) is pet and child safe.
